Asheville at it’s BEST

I knew I needed to blog this and am only angry at myself for not taking pictures of the morning events.

A few weeks ago we had a new washer and dryer delivered from Lowes. We got talking with the delivery guys and they told us that the best breakfast EVER was right up the street at Hoopers Cafe (144 Hoopers Creek Rd, Fletcher, NC, 28732) which is actually within walking distance if we feel like it. Today we didn’t.

We had awesome omelets there this morning and it was just like Mom cooking but it was Priscilla half my age cooking and she owns it now. John took great care to make sure the coffee was out and fresh and anything we needed. Her regular crowd had some interesting conversations going we enjoyed listening to and learning about local politics and business around Fletcher and Asheville.

As we paid our check at the register with John we talked with Priscilla who was saying her freezer was a problem. We offered our refrigerator sitting in our shed waiting for Goodwill. She explained that she needed to have a freezer that meets restaurant code and thanked us. Suddenly a guy waiting for a take out lunch order spoke up and asked how much we wanted for the fridge as he had a good friend that needed it. We didn’t care if he really has a good friend or not but after talking to him we believe he really did have a Carla that needed it. We told him “nothing” if he could come over the few blocks and take it in his truck.

What a great morning….Roger came over and got the fridge and gave us a huge history and gossip session on the area we live in because he grew up right near our house. We also found out that he recently was laid off after eight years of building log home and could use some work so we took his name and number to give to a contractor friend of ours to see if we can get him some work. We love Asheville because people like this exist and they are the real deal in that he wanted to help a friend, we were happy to get rid of the fridge and maybe we can get him some work.

By the way…if you need any work done on your home or kitchens or bathrooms, we know a great guy with referrals that might be interested. Email for his phone and info. Thank you Asheville for making us feel like we really are a part of you this morning in many ways. Priscilla, we will be back for your home cooking at Hoopers Cafe many times. Breakfast and Lunch only.
