Blogging in Asheville with Studio Chris
Who would have thought that it would take so long for someone like me that already blogs to learn so much more about blogging? I was woefully under skilled at this important technology standard. After two full days of the workshop I realized that a third day would have been even better.
So what did I learn about blogging?
- More about plugins and how necessary they are and how to install them
- CForms and how to use them if needed
- How to install a gallery (you will see this soon!) and why to do it
- Much more about SEO (search engine optimization)
- About Simple Tags
- WORDPRESS and content, themes and customizing
- Editing my categories and managing my posts
- How to make pages for my blog. Always needed to know this!
- Event updating
- Installing Twitterfeed.com
- Optimizing Feedburner and how to Troubleshootize it when it breaks
- What a slug is
- Much more about RSS (Really Simple Syndication stupid….!)
- Technorati Today I even “claimed my blog”!
- Using Live Writer to it’s easiest and fullest potential & download and install the newest version for new easier and cool features
Chris Price of Studio Chris taught the two days with expertise and a sense of humor for us all when we got lost. Why is it so much harder for me to be a student than to be teaching? My brain goes MUSH when I am in the student seat!
If this all sounds exciting to you, then add to it that Chris put everyone who did NOT have a blog yet online with their own blog (with additional info he needs from workshop members). So there we all were connecting with each other and live posting and testing out the features.
The Keanes came all the way from San Diego,CA to come to this workshop and we are so glad they did! I can’t believe we were so dumb to not take pictures. We were just too excited I think! We even had Bethel come from South Carolina and then stayed on another two days for the Painter X Beginner Workshop. So we had fun with her for four days.
Double thanks to Chris for setting up the Cintiq and the Canon 6100 printer for us. We have just been too busy to do it all!
We want Chris to do another Blogging Workshop here and cover it even more in depth. If you are interested in coming to one please comment or email me!

Hi Marilyn,
I just made you a favorite at Technorati — are you also at Blog Catalog?
I LOVE Windows Live Writer — it is so much easier for me to write a post there and then save it to my blog. Especially inserting and managing images. (I have yet to figure out Wordpress’ method for moving them about.) And I’m in the process of creating some gallery pages for my blog as well. I just discovered there’s a plug-in for that too — after using tables, I find this out!
It will be fun to watch your blog grow, Marilyn — and I’m anxiously awaiting my copy of your new book. Who knows, I may have to buy that extra software yet! Haha!
So glad your workshops went well. I can tell from the photos you all had fun.
I have a taste of your busy schedule right now — I sometimes wonder how you and Karen and Chris all do all that you do, without constant tummy knots. Maybe after Christmas life will settle? Not! Espcially not for the adventurous.

Never heard of Blog Catalog! Thanks for the tip. What plugin are you using for your galleries? I installed one but haven’t played with it yet. After Christmas in Jan/Feb/March is when we have to travel and I speak at conventions all over the country. That is travel work. We would rather be here in Asheville! Thanks Barb. Love your blog also and will add it here!

Hi again, Marilyn. I uploaded the NextGenGalleries plug in. Now I just have to learn how to use it. There’s a slideshow widget as well as a gallery widget. I’ll let you know when I have it working.
Blog Catalog — http://www.blogcatalog.com — is apparently very big in the blogosphere. I’m just beginning to understand all the workings there. (It ALL takes time, doesn’t it?)
Thanks, Marilyn, for adding my blog to yours. You’re already on my list of Blogs to Visit…
