Just sharing a small part of our street here in the Smokies with you all. Was playing with this and it turned out to be more than a photograph and less than a painting and it all worked for me. Hope you enjoy it.

We have some updates and new events posted here now. We also are going to have more Guest Speakers and Workshops here in Asheville at our studio. Hoping to have a Photoshop CS4 Workshop here with a wonderful speaker and educator plus more artist workshops. If you would like to make a suggestion as to who you would like to see please let me know!

We are very excited about all the events, but the Asheville:State of the Arts events are special to us and we hope to add more guest speakers coming in from all over the country! I am excited to present this self study course at DAA. You will find that this class will be fun and should bring beginners into the world of Digital Art and the more experienced will learn techniques and new ideas for creative art. What you need most of all for this class is IMAGINATION and after that Corel Painter X. We will be doing lessons that are ONLY applicable to Painter X. So if you do not have Painter X, download the FREE 30 Day Painter X for your platform.
We are also going to using Alien Skin SNAP ART to create layers that will bring new dimension to your art. Alien Skin SNAP ART also have a FREE 30 Day download, so again, wait till class starts to download and install it.
A Wacom tablet is truly the only way to be painting. A mouse can be used, but I highly recommend a Wacom Intuous 3 6×8 tablet as the minimum for painting.
Each week we will be working on a different subject. You may use your own images or the class reference images. It is highly recommended that all your own reference images be 8×10 @ 250 dpi as the minimum so you can truly see what you are painting. Smaller or lower resolution images make it difficult to see the brushstrokes and also hard for you to see details.

The Line Up for the Four Weeks:
Portraits: New techniques to speed up your portrait paintings and simplify them
Landscapes and City Art: Learn ways to improve your non-people art
Painting with Vibrant Color: Ways to look at color and add more color depth to your paintings
Texture and Finishing Touches: Adding texture to paintings and a variety of finishing touches
Once we finish a weeks lesson we will NOT be going back to it. These are Four SEPARATE lessons.

Our first year in Asheville and we had to at least spend a few hours at the 30th Anniversary of Bele Chere. We got there early and tried to cover as much as our tired feet would let us. It was clear that many artists early in the day were “Waiting for the Sale” and this painting reflects one such booth. I’m sure as the day went on the sales were there because we know we spent enough there!

Digital painting done in Corel Painter X using sponge brushes and a little charcoal. Always wanted to paint this one and needed to get the right mood for it and love the hair flow and curls.

Kitty Kitty Digital Painting with a cool mosaic background. Mostly conte brushes and my own Marilyn Rainbow brush inside the ears. Had fun painting this one and I hope you can see her smile.

Moral to the story….Never paint when emotionally involved and can’t be objective. Here is the first rework of this painting…..I HATE it. Can’t get past it. Too much is involved. Sigh…..will have to try another one. Can’t get this one to work for me.

 Bottom line…does it matter? If it FEELS like a painting and looks like a painting then it IS a painting! All done in Painter using Quick Clone method and some of Maura Dutras new brushes on her DVD.

My personal assistant Stella was photographed last year in England by a fantastic photographer from Malta, Albert deMarco. I had always wanted to create a painting from the image and finally it’s almost ready for prime time. I still have some little things to fix and adjust and all comments and ideas are welcome!!  Here is Stella!!
