I am excited to present this self study course at DAA. You will find that this class will be fun and should bring beginners into the world of Digital Art and the more experienced will learn techniques and new ideas for creative art. What you need most of all for this class is IMAGINATION and after that Corel Painter X. We will be doing lessons that are ONLY applicable to Painter X. So if you do not have Painter X, download the FREE 30 Day Painter X for your platform.
We are also going to using Alien Skin SNAP ART to create layers that will bring new dimension to your art. Alien Skin SNAP ART also have a FREE 30 Day download, so again, wait till class starts to download and install it.
A Wacom tablet is truly the only way to be painting. A mouse can be used, but I highly recommend a Wacom Intuous 3 6×8 tablet as the minimum for painting.
Each week we will be working on a different subject. You may use your own images or the class reference images. It is highly recommended that all your own reference images be 8×10 @ 250 dpi as the minimum so you can truly see what you are painting. Smaller or lower resolution images make it difficult to see the brushstrokes and also hard for you to see details.

The Line Up for the Four Weeks:
Portraits: New techniques to speed up your portrait paintings and simplify them
Landscapes and City Art: Learn ways to improve your non-people art
Painting with Vibrant Color: Ways to look at color and add more color depth to your paintings
Texture and Finishing Touches: Adding texture to paintings and a variety of finishing touches
Once we finish a weeks lesson we will NOT be going back to it. These are Four SEPARATE lessons.

We are in Chicago this weekend for a family wedding. First thing we did was go get Chicago Pizza!! Just happened by accident as we were on the way to the corner “coffee shop” and saw this place instead. It drew us in with its menu and our waiter Ian was fantastic and helpful. The food was great. Stop by there when you are downtown and try it!

There is an amazing Photoshop artist and instructor in California that I would love to bring here to Asheville for a workshop. Sherron Sheppard has won every award there is and spends her time creating art, giving workshops and also taking workshops. I need to know if there is some interest in coming to a workshop with Sherron and myself. You can see her info and galleries HERE

Please comment here also if you would like to attend a workshop with her or have any interest in having a Photoshop workshop for artists and photographers here in Asheville. This would definitely be an in depth three or four day workshop and would as always, include breakfast and lunch, snacks and materials. And don’t forget to bring your sense of humor and fun!

October 5-6 we will once again have a workshop for digital artists that want to learn how to use Corel Painter X to create original art of their own. It is just the kind of day I am getting a lot done and trying to get caught up and in the midst of it, one of the images I was editing inspired me to paint. The loose feeling here and the colors really seem to project the rainy day here in Asheville. We are all full of color and painting, but the droop to the petals under the much needed rain is really uplifting.

I just came back from Niagara after teaching there for a week at the Niagara School of Imaging for the third year. This is a close up of our class picture cropped to really be able to see everyone. We had a blast and the larger image can be seen on flickr.
